Dynamiques génériques : hyperbolicité et transitivité
We study stationary solutions of the damped wave equation on a compact and smooth Riemannian manifold without boundary. In the high frequency limit, we prove that a sequence of -damped stationary solutions cannot be completely concentrated in small neighborhoods of a small fixed hyperbolic subset made of -damped trajectories of the geodesic flow. The article also includes an appendix (by S. Nonnenmacher and the author) where we establish the existence of an inverse logarithmic strip without eigenvalues...
We show that an aperiodic minimal tiling space with only finitely many asymptotic composants embeds in a surface if and only if it is the suspension of a symbolic interval exchange transformation (possibly with reversals). We give two necessary conditions for an aperiodic primitive substitution tiling space to embed in a surface. In the case of substitutions on two symbols our classification is nearly complete. The results characterize the codimension one hyperbolic attractors of surface diffeomorphisms...
We study asymptotic properties of eigenfunctions of the Laplacian on compact Riemannian surfaces of Anosov type (for instance negatively curved surfaces). More precisely, we give an answer to a question of Anantharaman and Nonnenmacher [4] by proving that the Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy of a semiclassical measure for the geodesic flow is bounded from below by half of the Ruelle upper bound. (This text has been written for the proceedings of the Journées EDP (Port d’Albret-June, 7-11 2010))
We discuss the remaining obstacles to prove Smale's conjecture about the C¹-density of hyperbolicity among surface diffeomorphisms. Using a C¹-generic approach, we classify the possible pathologies that may obstruct the C¹-density of hyperbolicity. We show that there are essentially two types of obstruction: (i) persistence of infinitely many hyperbolic homoclinic classes and (ii) existence of a single homoclinic class which robustly exhibits homoclinic tangencies. In the course of our discussion,...
We study the ergodicity of the weak and strong stable foliations of hyperbolic systems on nilpotent covers. Subshifts of finite type and geodesic flows on negatively curved manifolds are also considered.
We investigate the question, due to S. Smale, of whether a hyperbolic automorphism T of the n-dimensional torus can have a compact invariant subset homeomorphic to a compact manifold of positive dimension, other than a finite union of subtori. In the simplest case such a manifold would be a closed surface. A result of Fathi says that T can sometimes have an invariant subset which is a finite-to-one image of a closed surface under a continuous map which is locally injective except possibly at a finite...
We consider a class of flows which includes both magnetic flows and Gaussian thermostats of external fields. We give sufficient conditions for such flows on manifolds of negative sectional curvature to be Anosov.
