On supportless absorbing convex subsets in normed spaces

V. Fonf (1993)

Studia Mathematica

It is proved that a separable normed space contains a closed bounded convex symmetric absorbing supportless subset if and only if this space may be covered (in its completion) by the range of a nonisomorphic operator.

On suprabarrelledness of c0 (Ω, X).

Manuel López Pellicer, Salvador Moll (2003)

RACSAM

On Tauberian and co-Tauberian operators.

Sudipta Dutta, Vladimir P. Fonf (2006)

Extracta Mathematicae

We show that a Banach space X has an infinite dimensional reflexive subspace (quotient) if and only if there exist a Banach space Z and a non-isomorphic one-to-one (dense range) Tauberian (co-Tauberian) operator form X to Z (Z to X). We also give necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a Tauberian operator from a separable Banach space to c0 which in turn generalizes a result of Johnson and Rosenthal. Another application of our result shows that if X** is separable, then there exists...

On the Banach-Mazur distance between continuous function spaces with scattered boundaries

Jakub Rondoš (2023)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We study the dependence of the Banach-Mazur distance between two subspaces of vector-valued continuous functions on the scattered structure of their boundaries. In the spirit of a result of Y. Gordon (1970), we show that the constant 2 appearing in the Amir-Cambern theorem may be replaced by 3 for some class of subspaces. We achieve this by showing that the Banach-Mazur distance of two function spaces is at least 3, if the height of the set of weak peak points of one of the spaces differs from the...

On the Banach-Stone problem

Jyh-Shyang Jeang, Ngai-Ching Wong (2003)

Studia Mathematica

Let X and Y be locally compact Hausdorff spaces, let E and F be Banach spaces, and let T be a linear isometry from C₀(X,E) into C₀(Y,F). We provide three new answers to the Banach-Stone problem: (1) T can always be written as a generalized weighted composition operator if and only if F is strictly convex; (2) if T is onto then T can be written as a weighted composition operator in a weak sense; and (3) if T is onto and F does not contain a copy of then T can be written as a weighted composition...

On the best constant in the Khinchin-Kahane inequality

Rafał Latała, Krzysztof Oleszkiewicz (1994)

Studia Mathematica

We prove that if r i is the Rademacher system of functions then ( ʃ i = 1 n x i r i ( t ) 2 d t ) 1 / 2 2 ʃ i = 1 n x i r i ( t ) d t for any sequence of vectors x i in any normed linear space F.

On the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás theorem for operators and numerical radius

Sun Kwang Kim, Han Ju Lee, Miguel Martín (2016)

Studia Mathematica

We study the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property for numerical radius (for short, BPBp-nu) of operators on ℓ₁-sums and -sums of Banach spaces. More precisely, we introduce a property of Banach spaces, which we call strongly lush. We find that if X is strongly lush and X ⊕₁ Y has the weak BPBp-nu, then (X,Y) has the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property (BPBp). On the other hand, if Y is strongly lush and X Y has the weak BPBp-nu, then (X,Y) has the BPBp. Examples of strongly lush spaces are C(K) spaces, L₁(μ)...

On the calculation of the Dunkl-Williams constant of normed linear spaces

Hiroyasu Mizuguchi, Kichi-Suke Saito, Ryotaro Tanaka (2013)

Open Mathematics

Recently, Jiménez-Melado et al. [Jiménez-Melado A., Llorens-Fuster E., Mazcuñán-Navarro E.M., The Dunkl-Williams constant, convexity, smoothness and normal structure, J. Math. Anal. Appl., 2008, 342(1), 298–310] defined the Dunkl-Williams constant DW(X) of a normed linear space X. In this paper we present some characterizations of this constant. As an application, we calculate DW(ℓ2-ℓ∞) in the Day-James space ℓ2-ℓ∞.

On the -characteristic of fractional powers of linear operators

Jürgen Appell, Marilda A. Simões, Petr P. Zabrejko (1994)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

We describe the geometric structure of the -characteristic of fractional powers of bounded or compact linear operators over domains with arbitrary measure. The description builds essentially on the Riesz-Thorin and Marcinkiewicz-Stein-Weiss- Ovchinnikov interpolation theorems, as well as on the Krasnosel’skij-Krejn factorization theorem.
