Scattered elements of Banach algebras

Peng Cao (2013)

Studia Mathematica

A scattered element of a Banach algebra is an element with at most countable spectrum. The set of all scattered elements is denoted by (). The scattered radical s c ( ) is the largest ideal consisting of scattered elements. We characterize in several ways central elements of modulo the scattered radical. As a consequence, it is shown that the following conditions are equivalent: (i) () + () ⊂ (); (ii) ()() ⊂ (); (iii) [ ( ) , ] s c ( ) .

Semigroup commutators under differences (II).

Nicholas Th. Varopoulos (1993)

Revista Matemática Iberoamericana

This is the second instalment of my previous paper with the same title, [1]. This paper consists of two different parts. The first part is devoted to improvements of the results developed in [1]. These improvements are described in section 0.1 below and developed in sections 1 to 5, and 9 to 10; they are in fact technically distinct from [1] and rely on a systematic use of microlocalisation in the context of Hörmander-Weyl calculus. These paragraphs can therefore be read quite independently from...

Spectral radius inequalities for positive commutators

Mirosława Zima (2014)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We establish several inequalities for the spectral radius of a positive commutator of positive operators in a Banach space ordered by a normal and generating cone. The main purpose of this paper is to show that in order to prove the quasi-nilpotency of the commutator we do not have to impose any compactness condition on the operators under consideration. In this way we give a partial answer to the open problem posed in the paper by J. Bračič, R. Drnovšek, Y. B. Farforovskaya, E. L. Rabkin, J. Zemánek...

Structures of left n-invertible operators and their applications

Caixing Gu (2015)

Studia Mathematica

We study left n-invertible operators introduced in two recent papers. We show how to construct a left n-inverse as a sum of a left inverse and a nilpotent operator. We provide refinements for results on products and tensor products of left n-invertible operators by Duggal and Müller (2013). Our study leads to improvements and different and often more direct proofs of results of Duggal and Müller (2013) and Sid Ahmed (2012). We make a conjecture about tensor products of left n-invertible operators...
