The impact of the Radon-Nikodym property on the weak bounded approximation property.

Eve Oja (2006)

RACSAM

A Banach space X is said to have the weak λ-bounded approximation property if for every separable reflexive Banach space Y and for every compact operator T : X → Y, there exists a net (Sα) of finite-rank operators on X such that supα ||TSα|| ≤ λ||T|| and Sα → IX uniformly on compact subsets of X.We prove the following theorem. Let X** or Y* have the Radon-Nikodym property; if X has the weak λ-bounded approximation property, then for every bounded linear operator T: X → Y, there exists a net (Sα)...

The Jordan structure of CSL algebras

Fangyan Lu (2009)

Studia Mathematica

We show that every Jordan isomorphism between CSL algebras is the sum of an isomorphism and an anti-isomorphism. Also we show that each Jordan derivation of a CSL algebra is a derivation.

The set of automorphisms of B(H) is topologically reflexive in B(B(H))

Lajos Molnár (1997)

Studia Mathematica

The aim of this paper is to prove the statement announced in the title which can be reformulated in the following way. Let H be a separable infinite-dimensional Hilbert space and let Φ: B(H) → B(H) be a continuous linear mapping with the property that for every A ∈ B(H) there exists a sequence ( Φ n ) of automorphisms of B(H) (depending on A) such that Φ ( A ) = l i m n Φ n ( A ) . Then Φ is an automorphism. Moreover, a similar statement holds for the set of all surjective isometries of B(H).

The space of multipliers and convolutors of Orlicz spaces on a locally compact group

Hasan P. Aghababa, Ibrahim Akbarbaglu, Saeid Maghsoudi (2013)

Studia Mathematica

Let G be a locally compact group, let (φ,ψ) be a complementary pair of Young functions, and let L φ ( G ) and L ψ ( G ) be the corresponding Orlicz spaces. Under some conditions on φ, we will show that for a Banach L φ ( G ) -submodule X of L ψ ( G ) , the multiplier space H o m L φ ( G ) ( L φ ( G ) , X * ) is a dual Banach space with predual L φ ( G ) X : = s p a n ¯ u x : u L φ ( G ) , x X , where the closure is taken in the dual space of H o m L φ ( G ) ( L φ ( G ) , X * ) . We also prove that if φ is a Δ₂-regular N-function, then C v φ ( G ) , the space of convolutors of M φ ( G ) , is identified with the dual of a Banach algebra of functions on G under pointwise...

The spectrally bounded linear maps on operator algebras

Jianlian Cui, Jinchuan Hou (2002)

Studia Mathematica

We show that every spectrally bounded linear map Φ from a Banach algebra onto a standard operator algebra acting on a complex Banach space is square-zero preserving. This result is used to show that if Φ₂ is spectrally bounded, then Φ is a homomorphism multiplied by a nonzero complex number. As another application to the Hilbert space case, a classification theorem is obtained which states that every spectrally bounded linear bijection Φ from ℬ(H) onto ℬ(K), where H and K are infinite-dimensional...

The Weyl correspondence as a functional calculus

Josefina Alvarez (2000)

Banach Center Publications

The aim of this paper is to use an abstract realization of the Weyl correspondence to define functions of pseudo-differential operators. We consider operators that form a self-adjoint Banach algebra. We construct on this algebra a functional calculus with respect to functions which are defined on the Euclidean space and have a finite number of derivatives.

Topologies and bornologies determined by operator ideals, II

Ngai-Ching Wong (1994)

Studia Mathematica

Let be an operator ideal on LCS’s. A continuous seminorm p of a LCS X is said to be - continuous if Q ̃ p i n j ( X , X ̃ p ) , where X ̃ p is the completion of the normed space X p = X / p - 1 ( 0 ) and Q ̃ p is the canonical map. p is said to be a Groth()- seminorm if there is a continuous seminorm q of X such that p ≤ q and the canonical map Q ̃ p q : X ̃ q X ̃ p belongs to ( X ̃ q , X ̃ p ) . It is well known that when is the ideal of absolutely summing (resp. precompact, weakly compact) operators, a LCS X is a nuclear (resp. Schwartz, infra-Schwartz) space if and only if every continuous...
