A continuum X such that C ( X ) is not continuously homogeneous

Alejandro Illanes (2016)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

A metric continuum X is said to be continuously homogeneous provided that for every two points p , q X there exists a continuous surjective function f : X X such that f ( p ) = q . Answering a question by W.J. Charatonik and Z. Garncarek, in this paper we show a continuum X such that the hyperspace of subcontinua of X , C ( X ) , is not continuously homogeneous.

A contribution to the topological classification of the spaces Ср(X)

Robert Cauty, Tadeusz Dobrowolski, Witold Marciszewski (1993)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We prove that for each countably infinite, regular space X such that C p ( X ) is a Z σ -space, the topology of C p ( X ) is determined by the class F 0 ( C p ( X ) ) of spaces embeddable onto closed subsets of C p ( X ) . We show that C p ( X ) , whenever Borel, is of an exact multiplicative class; it is homeomorphic to the absorbing set Ω α for the multiplicative Borel class M α if F 0 ( C p ( X ) ) = M α . For each ordinal α ≥ 2, we provide an example X α such that C p ( X α ) is homeomorphic to Ω α .

A convergence on Boolean algebras generalizing the convergence on the Aleksandrov cube

Miloš S. Kurilić, Aleksandar Pavlović (2014)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We compare the forcing-related properties of a complete Boolean algebra 𝔹 with the properties of the convergences λ s (the algebraic convergence) and λ ls on 𝔹 generalizing the convergence on the Cantor and Aleksandrov cube, respectively. In particular, we show that λ ls is a topological convergence iff forcing by 𝔹 does not produce new reals and that λ ls is weakly topological if 𝔹 satisfies condition ( ) (implied by the 𝔱 -cc). On the other hand, if λ ls is a weakly topological convergence, then 𝔹 is a 2 𝔥 -cc algebra...

A converse of the Arsenin–Kunugui theorem on Borel sets with σ-compact sections

P. Holický, Miroslav Zelený (2000)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Let f be a Borel measurable mapping of a Luzin (i.e. absolute Borel metric) space L onto a metric space M such that f(F) is a Borel subset of M if F is closed in L. We show that then f - 1 ( y ) is a K σ set for all except countably many y ∈ M, that M is also Luzin, and that the Borel classes of the sets f(F), F closed in L, are bounded by a fixed countable ordinal. This gives a converse of the classical theorem of Arsenin and Kunugui. As a particular case we get Taĭmanov’s theorem saying that the image of...

A Corson compact L-space from a Suslin tree

Peter Nyikos (2015)

Colloquium Mathematicae

The completion of a Suslin tree is shown to be a consistent example of a Corson compact L-space when endowed with the coarse wedge topology. The example has the further properties of being zero-dimensional and monotonically normal.

A countable dense homogeneous set of reals of size ℵ₁

Ilijas Farah, Michael Hrušák, Carlos Azarel Martínez Ranero (2005)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We prove there is a countable dense homogeneous subspace of ℝ of size ℵ₁. The proof involves an absoluteness argument using an extension of the L ω ω ( Q ) logic obtained by adding predicates for Borel sets.
