Constant and variable drop theorems on metrizable locally convex spaces
For a space , we denote by , and the hyperspaces of non-empty closed, compact, and subsets of cardinality of , respectively, with their Vietoris topology. For spaces and , is the space of continuous functions from to with its pointwise convergence topology. We analyze in this article when , and have continuous selections for a space of the form , where is zero-dimensional and is a strongly zero-dimensional metrizable space. We prove that is weakly orderable if and...
We characterize the countable compactness of lexicographic products of GO-spaces. Applying this characterization about lexicographic products, we see:
For a transfinite cardinal κ and i ∈ 0,1,2 let be the class of all linearly ordered spaces X of size κ such that X is totally disconnected when i = 0, the topology of X is generated by a dense linear ordering of X when i = 1, and X is compact when i = 2. Thus every space in ℒ₁(κ) ∩ ℒ₂(κ) is connected and hence ℒ₁(κ) ∩ ℒ₂(κ) = ∅ if , and ℒ₀(κ) ∩ ℒ₁(κ) ∩ ℒ₂(κ) = ∅ for arbitrary κ. All spaces in ℒ₁(ℵ₀) are homeomorphic, while ℒ₂(ℵ₀) contains precisely ℵ₁ spaces up to homeomorphism. The class ℒ₁(κ)...
Let X denote a locally connected continuum such that cyclic elements have metrizable boundary in X. We study the cyclic elements of X by demonstrating that each such continuum gives rise to an upper semicontinuous decomposition G of X into continua such that X/G is the continuous image of an arc and the cyclic elements of X correspond to the cyclic elements of X/G that are Peano continua.
For a space X and a regular uncountable cardinal κ ≤ |X| we say that κ ∈ D(X) if for each with |T| = κ, there is an open neighborhood W of Δ(X) such that |T - W| = κ. If then we say that X has a small diagonal, and if every regular uncountable κ ≤ |X| belongs to D(X) then we say that X has an H-diagonal. In this paper we investigate the interplay between D(X) and topological properties of X in the category of generalized ordered spaces. We obtain cardinal invariant theorems and metrization theorems...
We study domain-representable spaces, i.e., spaces that can be represented as the space of maximal elements of some continuous directed-complete partial order (= domain) with the Scott topology. We show that the Michael and Sorgenfrey lines are of this type, as is any subspace of any space of ordinals. We show that any completely regular space is a closed subset of some domain-representable space, and that if X is domain-representable, then so is any -subspace of X. It follows that any Čech-complete...
For a subspace A of a space X, a linear extender φ:C(A) → C(X) is called an -extender (resp. -extender) if φ(f)[X] is included in the convex hull (resp. closed convex hull) of f[A] for each f ∈ C(A). Consider the following conditions (i)-(vii) for a closed subset A of a GO-space X: (i) A is a retract of X; (ii) A is a retract of the union of A and all clopen convex components of X; (iii) there is a continuous -extender φ:C(A × Y) → C(X × Y), with respect to both the compact-open topology and...
Any finitely generated regular variety of distributive double -algebras is finitely determined, meaning that for some finite cardinal , any subclass of algebras with isomorphic endomorphism monoids has fewer than pairwise non-isomorphic members. This result follows from our structural characterization of those finitely generated almost regular varieties which are finitely determined. We conjecture that any finitely generated, finitely determined variety of distributive double -algebras...
