On the multiplicity of eigenvalues of conformally covariant operators

Yaiza Canzani (2014)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Let ( M , g ) be a compact Riemannian manifold and P g an elliptic, formally self-adjoint, conformally covariant operator of order m acting on smooth sections of a bundle over M . We prove that if P g has no rigid eigenspaces (see Definition 2.2), the set of functions f C ( M , ) for which P e f g has only simple non-zero eigenvalues is a residual set in C ( M , ) . As a consequence we prove that if P g has no rigid eigenspaces for a dense set of metrics, then all non-zero eigenvalues are simple for a residual set of metrics in the C -topology....

Pseudo-laplaciens. I

Pseudo-laplaciens II

Recovering quantum graphs from their Bloch spectrum

Ralf Rueckriemen (2013)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

We define the Bloch spectrum of a quantum graph to be the map that assigns to each element in the deRham cohomology the spectrum of an associated magnetic Schrödinger operator. We show that the Bloch spectrum determines the Albanese torus, the block structure and the planarity of the graph. It determines a geometric dual of a planar graph. This enables us to show that the Bloch spectrum indentifies and completely determines planar 3 -connected quantum graphs.

Sharp bounds for the intersection of nodal lines with certain curves

Junehyuk Jung (2014)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Let Y be a hyperbolic surface and let φ be a Laplacian eigenfunction having eigenvalue - 1 / 4 - τ 2 with τ > 0 . Let N ( φ ) be the set of nodal lines of φ . For a fixed analytic curve γ of finite length, we study the number of intersections between N ( φ ) and γ in terms of τ . When Y is compact and γ a geodesic circle, or when Y has finite volume and γ is a closed horocycle, we prove that γ is “good” in the sense of [TZ]. As a result, we obtain that the number of intersections between N ( φ ) and γ is O ( τ ) . This bound is sharp.

Spectral gap lower bound for the one-dimensional fractional Schrödinger operator in the interval

Kamil Kaleta (2012)

Studia Mathematica

We prove a uniform lower bound for the difference λ₂ - λ₁ between the first two eigenvalues of the fractional Schrödinger operator ( - Δ ) α / 2 + V , α ∈ (1,2), with a symmetric single-well potential V in a bounded interval (a,b), which is related to the Feynman-Kac semigroup of the symmetric α-stable process killed upon leaving (a,b). “Uniform” means that the positive constant C α appearing in our estimate λ - λ C α ( b - a ) - α is independent of the potential V. In the general case of α ∈ (0,2), we also find a uniform lower bound for...

Spectral theory of translation surfaces : A short introduction

Luc Hillairet (2009/2010)

Séminaire de théorie spectrale et géométrie

We define translation surfaces and, on these, the Laplace operator that is associated with the Euclidean (singular) metric. This Laplace operator is not essentially self-adjoint and we recall how self-adjoint extensions are chosen. There are essentially two geometrical self-adjoint extensions and we show that they actually share the same spectrum
