Global existence and large time asymptotic bounds of solutions of thermal diffusive combustion systems on
This article is devoted to the study of a flame ball model, derived by G. Joulin, which satisfies a singular integro-differential equation. We prove that, when radiative heat losses are too important, the flame always quenches; when heat losses are smaller, it stabilizes or quenches, depending on an energy input parameter. We also examine the asymptotics of the radius for these different regimes.
We describe behavior of the air-coal mixture using the Navier–Stokes equations for gas and particle phases, accompanied by a turbulence model. The undergoing chemical reactions are described by the Arrhenian kinetics (reaction rate proportional to where is temperature). We also consider the heat transfer via conduction and radiation. Moreover we use improved turbulence-chemistry interactions for reaction terms. The system of PDEs is discretized using the finite volume method (FVM) and an advection...
We present a model coupling the fire propagation equations in a bidimensional domain representing the surface, and the air movement equations in a three dimensional domain representing an air layer. As the air layer thickness is small compared with its length, an asymptotic analysis gives a three dimensional convective model governed by a bidimensional equation verified by a stream function. We also present the numerical simulations of these equations.
MSC 2010: 34A08 (main), 34G20, 80A25The application of Fractional Calculus in combustion science to model the evolution in time of the radius of an isolated premixed flame ball is highlighted. Literature equations for premixed flame ball radius are rederived by a new method that strongly simplifies previous ones. These equations are nonlinear time-fractional differential equations of order 1/2 with a Gaussian underlying diffusion process. Extending the analysis to self-similar anomalous diffusion...
We consider the evolution of a set according to the Huygens principle: i.e. the domain at time t>0, Λt, is the set of the points whose distance from Λ is lower than t. We give some general results for this evolution, with particular care given to the behavior of the perimeter of the evoluted set as a function of time. We define a class of sets (non-trapping sets) for which the perimeter is a continuous function of t, and we give an algorithm to approximate the evolution. Finally we restrict...
This article is devoted to the numerical study of a flame ball model, derived by Joulin, which obeys to a singular integro-differential equation. The numerical scheme that we analyze here, is based upon a one step method, and we are interested in its long-time behaviour. We recover the same dynamics as in the continuous case: quenching, or stabilization of the flame, depending on heat losses, and an energy input parameter.

The experimentally known phenomenon of oscillatory instability in convective burning of porous explosives is discussed. A simple phenomenological model accounting for the ejection of unburned particles from the consolidated charge is formulated and analyzed. It is shown that the post-front hydraulic resistance induced by the ejected particles provides a mechanism for the oscillatory burning.
We investigate different asymptotic regimes for Vlasov equations modeling the evolution of a cloud of particles in a turbulent flow. In one case we obtain a convection or a convection-diffusion effective equation on the concentration of particles. In the second case, the effective model relies on a Vlasov-Fokker-Planck equation.

A numerical study of a two-dimensional model for premixed gas combustion in a narrow, semi-infinite channel with no-slip boundary condition is performed. The work is motivated by recent theoretical advances revealing the major role of hydraulic resistance in deflagration-to-detonation transition, one of the central yet still inadequately understood phenomena of gaseous combustion. The work is a continuation and extension of recently reported results over non-isothermal boundary conditions, wider...
