The SQP method for control constrained optimal control of the Burgers equation

Fredi Tröltzsch, Stefan Volkwein (2010)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

A Lagrange–Newton–SQP method is analyzed for the optimal control of the Burgers equation. Distributed controls are given, which are restricted by pointwise lower and upper bounds. The convergence of the method is proved in appropriate Banach spaces. This proof is based on a weak second-order sufficient optimality condition and the theory of Newton methods for generalized equations in Banach spaces. For the numerical realization a primal-dual active set strategy is applied. Numerical examples are...

The stationary Boltzmann equation in n with given indata

Leif Arkeryd, Anne Nouri (2002)

Annali della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa - Classe di Scienze

An L 1 -existence theorem is proved for the nonlinear stationary Boltzmann equation for soft and hard forces in n with given indata on the boundary, when the collision operator is truncated for small velocities.

The Stokes system in the incompressible case-revisited

Rainer Picard (2008)

Banach Center Publications

The classical Stokes system is reconsidered and reformulated in a functional analytical setting allowing for low regularity of the data and the boundary. In fact the underlying domain can be any non-empty open subset Ω of ℝ³. A suitable solution concept and a corresponding solution theory is developed.

The topological asymptotic expansion for the Quasi-Stokes problem

Maatoug Hassine, Mohamed Masmoudi (2004)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

In this paper, we propose a topological sensitivity analysis for the Quasi-Stokes equations. It consists in an asymptotic expansion of a cost function with respect to the creation of a small hole in the domain. The leading term of this expansion is related to the principal part of the operator. The theoretical part of this work is discussed in both two and three dimensional cases. In the numerical part, we use this approach to optimize the locations of a fixed number of air injectors in an eutrophized...

The topological asymptotic for the Navier-Stokes equations

Samuel Amstutz (2005)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

The aim of the topological asymptotic analysis is to provide an asymptotic expansion of a shape functional with respect to the size of a small inclusion inserted inside the domain. The main field of application is shape optimization. This paper addresses the case of the steady-state Navier-Stokes equations for an incompressible fluid and a no-slip condition prescribed on the boundary of an arbitrary shaped obstacle. The two and three dimensional cases are treated for several examples of cost functional...

The vortex method for 2D ideal flows in the exterior of a disk

Diogo Arsénio, Emmanuel Dormy, Christophe Lacave (2014)

Journées Équations aux dérivées partielles

The vortex method is a common numerical and theoretical approach used to implement the motion of an ideal flow, in which the vorticity is approximated by a sum of point vortices, so that the Euler equations read as a system of ordinary differential equations. Such a method is well justified in the full plane, thanks to the explicit representation formulas of Biot and Savart. In an exterior domain, we also replace the impermeable boundary by a collection of point vortices generating the circulation...
