A singular initial value problem for the equation u ( n ) ( x ) = g ( u ( x ) )

Wojciech Mydlarczyk (1998)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Similarity:

We consider the problem of the existence of positive solutions u to the problem u ( n ) ( x ) = g ( u ( x ) ) , u ( 0 ) = u ' ( 0 ) = . . . = u ( n - 1 ) ( 0 ) = 0 (g ≥ 0,x > 0, n ≥ 2). It is known that if g is nondecreasing then the Osgood condition δ 1 / s [ s / g ( s ) ] 1 / n d s < is necessary and sufficient for the existence of nontrivial solutions to the above problem. We give a similar condition for other classes of functions g.

We consider the transmission problem for the Laplace operator in a straight cylinder with data in L p . Applying the theory of the sums of operators in Banach spaces, we prove that the solution admits a decomposition into a regular part in W 2 , p and an explicit singular part.

Existence and uniqueness for an integro-differential equation with singular kernel

Valeria Berti (2006)

Bollettino dell'Unione Matematica Italiana

Similarity:

In this paper we study the evolutive problem of linear viscoelasticity with a singular kernel memory G . We assume that G presents an initial singularity, so that it is not a L 1 -function in time, whereas the relaxation function G is integrable at t = 0 . By applying the Fourier transform method, we prove a theorem of existence and uniqueness of the weak solutions in a functional space whose definition is strictly related to the properties of the kernel memory.

Daniela Giachetti, François Murat (2009)

Bollettino dell'Unione Matematica Italiana

Similarity:

We prove the existence of distributional solutions to an elliptic problem with a lower order term which depends on the solution u in a singular way and on its gradient D u with quadratic growth. The prototype of the problem under consideration is { - Δ u + λ u = ± | D u | 2 | u | k + f in Ω , u = 0 on Ω , where λ > 0 , k > 0 ; f ( x ) L ( Ω ) , f ( x ) 0 (and so u 0 ). If 0 < k < 1 , we prove the existence of a solution for both the "+" and the "-" signs, while if k 1 , we prove the existence of a solution for the "+" sign only.

Let Q = ( q n ) n = 1 be a sequence of bases with q i 2 . In the case when the q i are slowly growing and satisfy some additional weak conditions, we provide a construction of a number whose Q -Cantor series expansion is both Q -normal and Q -distribution normal. Moreover, this construction will result in a computable number provided we have some additional conditions on the computability of Q , and from this construction we can provide computable constructions of numbers with atypical normality properties. ...
