The prime ideals intersection graph of a ring

M. J. Nikmehr, B. Soleymanzadeh (2017)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Let R be a commutative ring with unity and U ( R ) be the set of unit elements of R . In this paper, we introduce and investigate some properties of a new kind of graph on the ring R , namely, the prime ideals intersection graph of R , denoted by G p ( R ) . The G p ( R ) is a graph with vertex set R * - U ( R ) and two distinct vertices a and b are adjacent if and only if there exists a prime ideal 𝔭 of R such that a , b 𝔭 . We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on R such that G p ( R ) is disconnected. We find the diameter and girth of G p ( R ) ....

The ring of multisymmetric functions

Francesco Vaccarino (2005)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

We give a presentation (in terms of generators and relations) of the ring of multisymmetric functions that holds for any commutative ring R , thereby answering a classical question coming from works of F. Junker [J1, J2, J3] in the late nineteen century and then implicitly in H. Weyl book “The classical groups” [W].

The Rings Which Can Be Recovered by Means of the Difference

Ivan Chajda, Filip Švrček (2013)

Acta Universitatis Palackianae Olomucensis. Facultas Rerum Naturalium. Mathematica

It is well known that to every Boolean ring can be assigned a Boolean algebra whose operations are term operations of . Then a symmetric difference of together with the meet operation recover the original ring operations of . The aim of this paper is to show for what a ring a similar construction is possible. Of course, we do not construct a Boolean algebra but only so-called lattice-like structure which was introduced and treated by the authors in a previous paper. In particular, we reached...

The set of minimal distances in Krull monoids

Alfred Geroldinger, Qinghai Zhong (2016)

Acta Arithmetica

Let H be a Krull monoid with class group G. Then every nonunit a ∈ H can be written as a finite product of atoms, say a = u 1 · . . . · u k . The set (a) of all possible factorization lengths k is called the set of lengths of a. If G is finite, then there is a constant M ∈ ℕ such that all sets of lengths are almost arithmetical multiprogressions with bound M and with difference d ∈ Δ*(H), where Δ*(H) denotes the set of minimal distances of H. We show that max Δ*(H) ≤ maxexp(G)-2,(G)-1 and that equality holds if every...

The Strong Anick Conjecture is true

Vesselin Drensky, Jie-Tai Yu (2007)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Recently Umirbaev has proved the long-standing Anick conjecture, that is, there exist wild automorphisms of the free associative algebra K x , y , z over a field K of characteristic 0. In particular, the well-known Anick automorphism is wild. In this article we obtain a stronger result (the Strong Anick Conjecture that implies the Anick Conjecture). Namely, we prove that there exist wild coordinates of K x , y , z . In particular, the two nontrivial coordinates in the Anick automorphism are both wild. We establish a...

The strong persistence property and symbolic strong persistence property

Mehrdad Nasernejad, Kazem Khashyarmanesh, Leslie G. Roberts, Jonathan Toledo (2022)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

Let I be an ideal in a commutative Noetherian ring R . Then the ideal I has the strong persistence property if and only if ( I k + 1 : R I ) = I k for all k , and I has the symbolic strong persistence property if and only if ( I ( k + 1 ) : R I ( 1 ) ) = I ( k ) for all k , where I ( k ) denotes the k th symbolic power of I . We study the strong persistence property for some classes of monomial ideals. In particular, we present a family of primary monomial ideals failing the strong persistence property. Finally, we show that every square-free monomial ideal has the...

The tame degree and related invariants of non-unique factorizations

Franz Halter-Koch (2008)

Acta Mathematica Universitatis Ostraviensis

Local tameness and the finiteness of the catenary degree are two crucial finiteness conditions in the theory of non-unique factorizations in monoids and integral domains. In this note, we refine the notion of local tameness and relate the resulting invariants with the usual tame degree and the ω -invariant. Finally we present a simple monoid which fails to be locally tame and yet has nice factorization properties.
