Monotonicity in Banach function spaces

Sinnamon, Gord (2007)

Nonlinear Analysis, Function Spaces and Applications

This paper is an informal presentation of material from [28]–[34]. The monotone envelopes of a function, including the level function, are introduced and their properties are studied. Applications to norm inequalities are given. The down space of a Banach function space is defined and connections are made between monotone envelopes and the norms of the down space and its dual. The connection is shown to be particularly close in the case of universally rearrangement invariant spaces. Next, two equivalent...

Multi-dimensional Fejér summability and local Hardy spaces

Ferenc Weisz (2009)

Studia Mathematica

It is proved that the multi-dimensional maximal Fejér operator defined in a cone is bounded from the amalgam Hardy space W ( h p , ) to W ( L p , ) . This implies the almost everywhere convergence of the Fejér means in a cone for all f W ( L , ) , which is larger than L ( d ) .

It is also shown that if T is convolution by a biased coin on L p of the Cantor group, 1 p < 2 , and T | X is an isomorphism for some reflexive subspace X of L p , then X is isomorphic to a Hilbert space. The case p = 1 answers a question asked by Rosenthal in 1976.

Musielak-Orlicz spaces and prediction problems

Kazimierz Urbanik (2004)

Banach Center Publications

By a harmonizable sequence of random variables we mean the sequence of Fourier coefficients of a random measure M: X ( M ) = 0 1 e 2 π n i s M ( d s ) (n = 0,±1,...) The paper deals with prediction problems for sequences Xₙ(M) for isotropic and atomless random measures M. The crucial result asserts that the space of all complex-valued M-integrable functions on the unit interval is a Musielak-Orlicz space. Hence it follows that the problem for Xₙ(M) (n = 0,±1,...) to be deterministic is in fact an extremal problem of Szegö’s type...

Musielak-Orlicz-Hardy Spaces Associated with Operators Satisfying Reinforced Off-Diagonal Estimates

The Anh Bui, Jun Cao, Luong Dang Ky, Dachun Yang, Sibei Yang (2013)

Analysis and Geometry in Metric Spaces

Let X be a metric space with doubling measure and L a one-to-one operator of type ω having a bounded H∞ -functional calculus in L2(X) satisfying the reinforced (pL; qL) off-diagonal estimates on balls, where pL ∊ [1; 2) and qL ∊ (2;∞]. Let φ : X × [0;∞) → [0;∞) be a function such that φ (x;·) is an Orlicz function, φ(·;t) ∊ A∞(X) (the class of uniformly Muckenhoupt weights), its uniformly critical upper type index l(φ) ∊ (0;1] and φ(·; t) satisfies the uniformly reverse Hölder inequality of order...

Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev spaces with zero boundary values on metric measure spaces

Takao Ohno, Tetsu Shimomura (2016)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We define and study Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev spaces with zero boundary values on any metric space endowed with a Borel regular measure. We extend many classical results, including completeness, lattice properties and removable sets, to Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev spaces on metric measure spaces. We give sufficient conditions which guarantee that a Sobolev function can be approximated by Lipschitz continuous functions vanishing outside an open set. These conditions are based on Hardy type inequalities....

Narrow operators (a survey)

Mikhail Popov (2011)

Banach Center Publications

Narrow operators are those operators defined on function spaces which are "small" at signs, i.e., at {-1,0,1}-valued functions. We summarize here some results and problems on them. One of the most interesting things is that if E has an unconditional basis then each operator on E is a sum of two narrow operators, while the sum of two narrow operators on L₁ is narrow. Recently this notion was generalized to vector lattices. This generalization explained the phenomena of sums: the set of all regular...

Nearly smooth points and near smoothness in Orlicz spaces

Ji Donghai, Yanming Lü, Ting Fu Wang (1998)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

Nearly smooth points and near smoothness in Orlicz spaces are characterized. It is worth to notice that in the nonatomic case smooth points and nearly smooth points are the same, but in the sequence case they differ.

Necessary and sufficient conditions for boundedness of the maximal operator in local Morrey-type spaces

Viktor I. Burenkov, Huseyn V. Guliyev (2004)

Studia Mathematica

The problem of boundedness of the Hardy-Littewood maximal operator in local and global Morrey-type spaces is reduced to the problem of boundedness of the Hardy operator in weighted L p -spaces on the cone of non-negative non-increasing functions. This allows obtaining sufficient conditions for boundedness for all admissible values of the parameters. Moreover, in case of local Morrey-type spaces, for some values of the parameters, these sufficient conditions are also necessary.
