We transform the concept of p-summing operators, 1≤ p < ∞, to the more general setting of nonlinear Banach space operators. For 1-summing operators on B(Σ,X)-spaces having weak integral representations we generalize the Grothendieck-Pietsch domination principle. This is applied for the characterization of 1-summing Hammerstein operators on C(S,X)-spaces. For p-summing Hammerstein operators we derive the existence of control measures and p-summing extensions to B(Σ,X)-spaces.

A family T(ν), ν ∈ ℝ, of semiinfinite positive Jacobi matrices is introduced with matrix entries taken from the Hahn-Exton q-difference equation. The corresponding matrix operators defined on the linear hull of the canonical basis in ℓ2(ℤ+) are essentially self-adjoint for |ν| ≥ 1 and have deficiency indices (1, 1) for |ν| < 1. The Hausdorff operators on the real Hardy spaces H p ( )

We prove that the Hausdorff operator generated by a function ϕ is bounded on the real Hardy space H p ( ) , 0 < p ≤ 1, if the Fourier transform ϕ̂ of ϕ satisfies certain smoothness conditions. As a special case, we obtain the boundedness of the Cesàro operator of order α on H p ( ) , 2/(2α+1) < p ≤ 1. Our proof is based on the atomic decomposition and molecular characterization of H p ( ) .

The purpose of this paper is to prove that the higher order Riesz transform for Gaussian measure associated with the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck differential operator L : = d 2 / d x 2 - 2 x d / d x , x ∈ ℝ, need not be of weak type (1,1). A function in L 1 ( d γ ) , where dγ is the Gaussian measure, is given such that the distribution function of the higher order Riesz transform decays more slowly than C/λ.

The ideal of p-compact operators: a tensor product approach

We study the space of p-compact operators, p , using the theory of tensor norms and operator ideals. We prove that p is associated to / d p , the left injective associate of the Chevet-Saphar tensor norm d p (which is equal to g p ' ' ). This allows us to relate the theory of p-summing operators to that of p-compact operators. The Lax-Phillips infinitesimal generator and the scattering matrix for automorphic functions

We study the infinitesimal generator of the Lax-Phillips semigroup of the automorphic scattering system defined on the Poincaré upper half-plane for SL₂(ℤ). We show that its spectrum consists only of the poles of the resolvent of the generator, and coincides with the poles of the scattering matrix, counted with multiplicities.
