A note on a class of equilibrium problems with equilibrium constraints

Jiří V. Outrata (2004)

Kybernetika

The paper concerns a two-level hierarchical game, where the players on each level behave noncooperatively. In this way one can model eg an oligopolistic market with several large and several small firms. We derive two types of necessary conditions for a solution of this game and discuss briefly the possibilities of its computation.

A note on Minty type vector variational inequalities

Giovanni P. Crespi, Ivan Ginchev, Matteo Rocca (2005)

RAIRO - Operations Research - Recherche Opérationnelle

The existence of solutions to a scalar Minty variational inequality of differential type is usually related to monotonicity property of the primitive function. On the other hand, solutions of the variational inequality are global minimizers for the primitive function. The present paper generalizes these results to vector variational inequalities putting the Increasing Along Rays (IAR) property into the center of the discussion. To achieve that infinite elements in the image space Y are introduced....

A note on variational-type inequalities for (η,θ,δ)-pseudomonotone-type set-valued mappings in nonreflexive Banach spaces

Magdalena Nockowska-Rosiak (2013)

Discussiones Mathematicae, Differential Inclusions, Control and Optimization

In this paper the existence of solutions to variational-type inequalities problems for (η,θ,δ)- pseudomonotone-type set-valued mappings in nonreflexive Banach spaces introduced in [4] is considered. Presented theorem does not require a compact set-valued mapping, but requires a weaker condition 'locally bounded' for the mapping.

A piezoelectric contact problem with normal compliance

Mircea Sofonea, Youssef Ouafik (2005)

Applicationes Mathematicae

We consider a mathematical model which describes the static frictional contact between a piezoelectric body and an insulator foundation. We use a nonlinear electroelastic constitutive law to model the piezoelectric material and the normal compliance condition associated to a version of Coulomb's friction law to model the contact. We derive a variational formulation for the model which is in the form of a coupled system involving the displacement and the electric potential fields. Then we provide...

A posteriori error analysis for parabolic variational inequalities

Kyoung-Sook Moon, Ricardo H. Nochetto, Tobias von Petersdorff, Chen-song Zhang (2007)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

Motivated by the pricing of American options for baskets we consider a parabolic variational inequality in a bounded polyhedral domain Ω d with a continuous piecewise smooth obstacle. We formulate a fully discrete method by using piecewise linear finite elements in space and the backward Euler method in time. We define an a posteriori error estimator and show that it gives an upper bound for the error in L2(0,T;H1(Ω)). The error estimator is localized in the sense that the size of the elliptic residual...

A quasistatic bilateral contact problem with adhesion and friction for viscoelastic materials

Arezki Touzaline (2010)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

We consider a mathematical model which describes a contact problem between a deformable body and a foundation. The contact is bilateral and is modelled with Tresca's friction law in which adhesion is taken into account. The evolution of the bonding field is described by a first order differential equation and the material's behavior is modelled with a nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive law. We derive a variational formulation of the mechanical problem and prove the existence and uniqueness result...

A quasistatic contact problem with adhesion and friction for viscoelastic materials

Arezki Touzaline (2010)

Applicationes Mathematicae

We consider a mathematical model which describes the contact between a deformable body and a foundation. The contact is frictional and is modelled by a version of normal compliance condition and the associated Coulomb's law of dry friction in which adhesion of contact surfaces is taken into account. The evolution of the bonding field is described by a first order differential equation and the material's behaviour is modelled by a nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive law. We derive a variational formulation...

A quasistatic contact problem with unilateral constraint and slip-dependent friction

Arezki Touzaline (2015)

Applicationes Mathematicae

We consider a mathematical model of a quasistatic contact between an elastic body and an obstacle. The contact is modelled with unilateral constraint and normal compliance, associated to a version of Coulomb's law of dry friction where the coefficient of friction depends on the slip displacement. We present a weak formulation of the problem and establish an existence result. The proofs employ a time-discretization method, compactness and lower semicontinuity arguments.
