Solution of degenerate parabolic variational inequalities with convection

Degenerate parabolic variational inequalities with convection are solved by means of a combined relaxation method and method of characteristics. The mathematical problem is motivated by Richard's equation, modelling the unsaturated – saturated flow in porous media. By means of the relaxation method we control the degeneracy. The dominance of the convection is controlled by the method of characteristics.

In this paper, we are interested in modelling the flow of the coolant (water) in a nuclear reactor core. To this end, we use a monodimensional low Mach number model supplemented with the stiffened gas law. We take into account potential phase transitions by a single equation of state which describes both pure and mixture phases. In this paper we describe two methods for optical flow estimation between two images. Both methods are based on the backward tracking of characteristics for advection equation and the difference is on the choice of advection vector field. We present numerical experiments on 2D data of cell nucleus.

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena

There are two mathematical models of elastic walls of healthy and atherosclerotic blood vessels developed and studied. The models are included in a numerical model of global blood circulation via recovery of the vessel wall state equation. The joint model allows us to study the impact of arteries atherosclerotic disease of a set of arteries on regional haemodynamics.
