A central WENO-TVD scheme for hyperbolic conservation laws.
This paper proposes a linear discrete-time scheme for general nonlinear cross-diffusion systems. The scheme can be regarded as an extension of a linear scheme based on the nonlinear Chernoff formula for the degenerate parabolic equations, which proposed by Berger et al. [RAIRO Anal. Numer.13 (1979) 297–312]. We analyze stability and convergence of the linear scheme. To this end, we apply the theory of reaction-diffusion system approximation. After discretizing the scheme in space, we obtain a versatile,...

This paper deals with modeling the passive behavior of skeletal muscle tissue including certain microvibrations at the cell level. Our approach combines a continuum mechanics model with large deformation and incompressibility at the macroscale with chains of coupled nonlinear oscillators. The model verifies that an externally applied vibration at the appropriate frequency is able to synchronize microvibrations in skeletal muscle cells. From the numerical analysis point of view, one faces...
Finite element methods with piecewise polynomial spaces in space for solving the nonstationary heat equation, as a model for parabolic equations are considered. The discretization in time is performed using the Crank-Nicolson method. A new a priori estimate is proved. Thanks to this new a priori estimate, a new error estimate in the discrete norm of is proved. An -error estimate is also shown. These error estimates are useful since they allow us to get second order time accurate approximations...
Systems of parabolic differential equations are studied in the paper. Two a posteriori error estimates for the approximate solution obtained by the finite element method of lines are presented. A statement on the rate of convergence of the approximation of error by estimator to the error is proved.
We will investigate the possibility to use superconvergence results for the mixed finite element discretizations of some time-dependent partial differential equations in the construction of a posteriori error estimators. Since essentially the same approach can be followed in two space dimensions, we will, for simplicity, consider a model problem in one space dimension.
We consider highly accurate schemes for nonlinear time fractional Schrödinger equations (NTFSEs). While an strategy is employed for approximating the Caputo fractional derivative in the temporal direction, compact CCD finite difference approaches are incorporated in the space. A highly effective hybrid -CCD method is implemented successfully. The accuracy of this linearized scheme is order six in space, and order in time, where is the order of the Caputo fractional derivative involved. It...
We propose and study semidiscrete and fully discrete finite element schemes based on appropriate relaxation models for systems of Hyperbolic Conservation Laws. These schemes are using piecewise polynomials of arbitrary degree and their consistency error is of high order. The methods are combined with an adaptive strategy that yields fine mesh in shock regions and coarser mesh in the smooth parts of the solution. The computational performance of these methods is demonstrated by considering scalar...

In this paper Rothe’s classical method is extended so that it can be used to solve some linear parabolic boundary value problems in non-cylindrical domains. The corresponding existence and uniqueness theorems are proved and some further results and generalizations are discussed and applied.
An implicit-explicit (IMEX) method is developed for the numerical solution of reaction-diffusion equations with pure Neumann boundary conditions. The corresponding method of lines scheme with finite differences is analyzed: explicit conditions are given for its convergence in the ‖·‖∞ norm. The results are applied to a model for determining the overpotential in a proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell.
In this article, we consider the initial value problem which is obtained after a space discretization (with space step ) of the equations governing the solidification process of a multicomponent alloy. We propose a numerical scheme to solve numerically this initial value problem. We prove an error estimate which is not affected by the step size chosen in the space discretization. Consequently, our scheme provides global convergence without any stability condition between and the time step size...
In this article, we consider the initial value problem which is obtained after a space discretization (with space step h) of the equations governing the solidification process of a multicomponent alloy. We propose a numerical scheme to solve numerically this initial value problem. We prove an error estimate which is not affected by the step size h chosen in the space discretization. Consequently, our scheme provides global convergence without any stability condition between h and the time...
One parabolic integrodifferential problem in the abstract real Hilbert spaces is studied in this paper. The semidiscrete and full discrete approximate solution is defined and the error estimate of Rothe's function in some function spaces is established.
The authors study problems of existence and uniqueness of solutions of various variational formulations of the coupled problem of dynamical thermoelasticity and of the convergence of approximate solutions of these problems. First, the semidiscrete approximate solutions is defined, which is obtained by time discretization of the original variational problem by Euler’s backward formula. Under certain smoothness assumptions on the date authors prove existence and uniqueness of the solution and establish...
