Lectures on spherical and wonderful varieties

Guido Pezzini (2010)

Les cours du CIRM

These notes contain an introduction to the theory of spherical and wonderful varieties. We describe the Luna-Vust theory of embeddings of spherical homogeneous spaces, and explain how wonderful varieties fit in the theory.

Lefschetz Fibrations and real Lefschetz fibrations

Nermin Salepci (2014)

Winter Braids Lecture Notes

This note is based on the lectures that I have given during the winter school Winter Braids IV, School on algebraic and topological aspects of braid groups held in Dijon on 10 - 13 February 2014. The aim of series of three lectures was to give an overview of geometrical and topological properties of 4-dimensional Lefschetz fibrations. Meanwhile, I could briefly introduce real Lefschetz fibrations, fibrations which have certain symmetry, and could present some interesting features of them. This note...

Lehmer’s conjecture for polynomials satisfying a congruence divisibility condition and an analogue for elliptic curves

Joseph H. Silverman (2012)

Journal de Théorie des Nombres de Bordeaux

A number of authors have proven explicit versions of Lehmer’s conjecture for polynomials whose coefficients are all congruent to  1 modulo  m . We prove a similar result for polynomials  f ( X ) that are divisible in  ( / m ) [ X ] by a polynomial of the form 1 + X + + X n for some n ϵ deg ( f ) . We also formulate and prove an analogous statement for elliptic curves.

Lelong classes on toric manifolds and a theorem of Siciak

Maritza M. Branker, Małgorzata Stawiska (2012)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

We generalize a theorem of Siciak on the polynomial approximation of the Lelong class to the setting of toric manifolds with an ample line bundle. We also characterize Lelong classes by means of a growth condition on toric manifolds with an ample line bundle and construct an example of a nonample line bundle for which Siciak's theorem does not hold.

Length 2 variables of A[x,y] and transfer

Eric Edo, Stéphane Vénéreau (2001)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

We construct and study length 2 variables of A[x,y] (A is a commutative ring). If A is an integral domain, we determine among these variables those which are tame. If A is a UFD, we prove that these variables are all stably tame. We apply this construction to show that some polynomials of A[x₁,...,xₙ] are variables using transfer.
