Some remarks on the space of differences of sublinear functions

Sven Bartels, Diethard Pallaschke (1994)

Applicationes Mathematicae

Two properties concerning the space of differences of sublinear functions D(X) for a real Banach space X are proved. First, we show that for a real separable Banach space (X,‖·‖) there exists a countable family of seminorms such that D(X) becomes a Fréchet space. For X = ℝ^n this construction yields a norm such that D(ℝ^n) becomes a Banach space. Furthermore, we show that for a real Banach space with a smooth dual every sublinear Lipschitzian function can be expressed by the Fenchel conjugate of...

Some results about the Henstock-Kurzweil Fourier transform

Francisco J. Mendoza Torres, Juan A. Escamilla Reyna, Salvador Sánchez Perales (2009)

Mathematica Bohemica

We consider the Fourier transform in the space of Henstock-Kurzweil integrable functions. We prove that the classical results related to the Riemann-Lebesgue lemma, existence and continuity are true in appropriate subspaces.

Some results on derangement polynomials

Mehdi Hassani, Hossein Moshtagh, Mohammad Ghorbani (2022)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

We study moments of the difference D n ( x ) - x n n ! e - 1 / x concerning derangement polynomials D n ( x ) . For the first moment, we obtain an explicit formula in terms of the exponential integral function and we show that it is always negative for x > 0 . For the higher moments, we obtain a multiple integral representation of the order of the moment under computation.

Some Results on Maps That Factor through a Tree

Roger Züst (2015)

Analysis and Geometry in Metric Spaces

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a map deffned on a simply-connected quasi-convex metric space to factor through a tree. In case the target is the Euclidean plane and the map is Hölder continuous with exponent bigger than 1/2, such maps can be characterized by the vanishing of some integrals over winding number functions. This in particular shows that if the target is the Heisenberg group equipped with the Carnot-Carathéodory metric and the Hölder exponent of the map is bigger than...

Some results on projection of planar sets

Dilip Kumar Ganguly, M. Majumdar (1998)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

In this paper we define certain types of projections of planar sets and study some properties of such projections.

Some weighted norm inequalities for a one-sided version of g * λ

L. de Rosa, C. Segovia (2006)

Studia Mathematica

We study the boundedness of the one-sided operator g λ , φ between the weighted spaces L p ( M ¯ w ) and L p ( w ) for every weight w. If λ = 2/p whenever 1 < p < 2, and in the case p = 1 for λ > 2, we prove the weak type of g λ , φ . For every λ > 1 and p = 2, or λ > 2/p and 1 < p < 2, the boundedness of this operator is obtained. For p > 2 and λ > 1, we obtain the boundedness of g λ , φ from L p ( ( M ¯ ) [ p / 2 ] + 1 w ) to L p ( w ) , where ( M ¯ ) k denotes the operator M¯ iterated k times.

Sommes de carrés de fonctions dérivables

Jean-Michel Bony (2005)

Space of Baire functions. I

J. E. Jayne (1974)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

Several equivalent conditions are given for the existence of real-valued Baire functions of all classes on a type of K -analytic spaces, called disjoint analytic spaces, and on all pseudocompact spaces. The sequential stability index for the Banach space of bounded continuous real-valued functions on these spaces is shown to be either 0 , 1 , or Ω (the first uncountable ordinal). In contrast, the space of bounded real-valued Baire functions of class 1 is shown to contain closed linear subspaces with index...

Spaces of sequences, sampling theorem, and functions of exponential type

Rodolfo Torres (1991)

Studia Mathematica

We introduce certain spaces of sequences which can be used to characterize spaces of functions of exponential type. We present a generalized version of the sampling theorem and a "nonorthogonal wavelet decomposition" for the elements of these spaces of sequences. In particular, we obtain a discrete version of the so-called φ-transform studied in [6] [8]. We also show how these new spaces and the corresponding decompositions can be used to study multiplier operators on Besov spaces.

Spectral theory and operator ergodic theory on super-reflexive Banach spaces

Earl Berkson (2010)

Studia Mathematica

On reflexive spaces trigonometrically well-bounded operators have an operator-ergodic-theory characterization as the invertible operators U such that s u p n , z | | 0 < | k | n ( 1 - | k | / ( n + 1 ) ) k - 1 z k U k | | < . (*) Trigonometrically well-bounded operators permeate many settings of modern analysis, and this note highlights the advances in both their spectral theory and operator ergodic theory made possible by a recent rekindling of interest in the R. C. James inequalities for super-reflexive spaces. When the James inequalities are combined with Young-Stieltjes...

Stability criteria of linear neutral systems with distributed delays

Guang-Da Hu (2011)

Kybernetika

In this paper, stability of linear neutral systems with distributed delay is investigated. A bounded half circular region which includes all unstable characteristic roots, is obtained. Using the argument principle, stability criteria are derived which are necessary and sufficient conditions for asymptotic stability of the neutral systems. The stability criteria need only to evaluate the characteristic function on a straight segment on the imaginary axis and the argument on the boundary of a bounded...
