Betti numbers of monomial ideals and shifted skew shapes.
Let be the greatest odd integer less than or equal to . In this paper we provide explicit formulae to compute -graded Betti numbers of the circulant graphs . We do this by showing that this graph is the product (or join) of the cycle by itself, and computing Betti numbers of . We also discuss whether such a graph (more generally, ) is well-covered, Cohen-Macaulay, sequentially Cohen-Macaulay, Buchsbaum, or .
A numerical function of bicubic planar maps found by the author and colleagues is a special case of a polynomial due to François Jaeger.
Using results of Altshuler and Negami, we present a classification of biembeddings of symmetric configurations of triples in the torus or Klein bottle. We also give an alternative proof of the structure of 3-homogeneous Latin trades.
Let be the complete bipartite graph with partite sets and . A split bipartite-graph on vertices, denoted by , is the graph obtained from by adding new vertices , such that each of is adjacent to each of and each of is adjacent to each of . Let and be nonincreasing lists of nonnegative integers, having lengths and , respectively. The pair is potentially -bigraphic if there is a simple bipartite graph containing (with vertices in the part of size and vertices...
We study the bi-Lipschitz embedding problem for metric compacta hyperspaces. We observe that the compacta hyperspace K(X) of any separable, uniformly disconnected metric space X admits a bi-Lipschitz embedding in ℓ². If X is a countable compact metric space containing at most n nonisolated points, there is a Lipschitz embedding of K(X) in ; in the presence of an additional convergence condition, this embedding may be chosen to be bi-Lipschitz. By way of contrast, the hyperspace K([0,1]) of the...
Two operators are constructed which make it possible to transform ternary relations into binary relations defined on binary relations and vice versa. A possible graphical representation of ternary relations is described.
For k ≥ 1, the odd graph denoted by O(k), is the graph with the vertex-set Ωk, the set of all k-subsets of Ω = 1, 2, …, 2k +1, and any two of its vertices u and v constitute an edge [u, v] if and only if u ∩ v = /0. In this paper the binary code generated by the adjacency matrix of O(k) is studied. The automorphism group of the code is determined, and by identifying a suitable information set, a 2-PD-set of the order of k 4 is determined. Lastly, the relationship between the dual code from O(k)...
The following result is proved: if a bipartite graph is not a circle graph, then its complement is not a circle graph. The proof uses Naji’s characterization of circle graphs by means of a linear system of equations with unknowns in .At the end of this short note I briefly recall the work of François Jaeger on circle graphs.
