High order transmission conditions for thin conductive sheets in magneto-quasistatics

Kersten Schmidt, Sébastien Tordeux (2011)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

We propose transmission conditions of order 1, 2 and 3 approximating the shielding behaviour of thin conducting curved sheets for the magneto-quasistatic eddy current model in 2D. This model reduction applies to sheets whose thicknesses ε are at the order of the skin depth or essentially smaller. The sheet has itself not to be resolved, only its midline is represented by an interface. The computation is directly in one step with almost no additional cost. We prove the well-posedness w.r.t. to...

Higher regularity for nonlinear oblique derivative problems in Lipschitz domains

Gary M. Lieberman (2002)

Annali della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa - Classe di Scienze

There is a long history of studying nonlinear boundary value problems for elliptic differential equations in a domain with sufficiently smooth boundary. In this paper, we show that the gradient of the solution of such a problem is continuous when a directional derivative is prescribed on the boundary of a Lipschitz domain for a large class of nonlinear equations under weak conditions on the data of the problem. The class of equations includes linear equations with fairly rough coefficients as well...

Highly anisotropic nonlinear temperature balance equation and its numerical solution using asymptotic-preserving schemes of second order in time

Alexei Lozinski, Jacek Narski, Claudia Negulescu (2014)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

This paper deals with the numerical study of a nonlinear, strongly anisotropic heat equation. The use of standard schemes in this situation leads to poor results, due to the high anisotropy. An Asymptotic-Preserving method is introduced in this paper, which is second-order accurate in both, temporal and spacial variables. The discretization in time is done using an L-stable Runge−Kutta scheme. The convergence of the method is shown to be independent of the anisotropy parameter , and this for fixed...

Hölder continuity of bounded generalized solutions for some degenerated quasilinear elliptic equations with natural growth terms

Salvatore Bonafede (2018)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

We prove the local Hölder continuity of bounded generalized solutions of the Dirichlet problem associated to the equation i = 1 m x i a i ( x , u , u ) - c 0 | u | p - 2 u = f ( x , u , u ) , assuming that the principal part of the equation satisfies the following degenerate ellipticity condition λ ( | u | ) i = 1 m a i ( x , u , η ) η i ν ( x ) | η | p , and the lower-order term f has a natural growth with respect to u .

Hölder continuity of solutions of second-order non-linear elliptic integro-differential equations

Guy Barles, Emmanuel Chasseigne, Cyril Imbert (2011)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

This paper is concerned with the Hölder regularity of viscosity solutions of second-order, fully non-linear elliptic integro-differential equations. Our results rely on two key ingredients: first we assume that, at each point of the domain, either the equation is strictly elliptic in the classical fully non-linear sense, or (and this is the most original part of our work) the equation is strictly elliptic in a non-local non-linear sense we make precise. Next we impose some regularity and growth...

Hölder continuous solutions to Monge–Ampère equations

Jean-Pierre Demailly, Sławomir Dinew, Vincent Guedj, Pham Hoang Hiep, Sławomir Kołodziej, Ahmed Zeriahi (2014)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Let ( X , ω ) be a compact Kähler manifold. We obtain uniform Hölder regularity for solutions to the complex Monge-Ampère equation on X with L p right hand side, p > 1 . The same regularity is furthermore proved on the ample locus in any big cohomology class. We also study the range ( X , ω ) of the complex Monge-Ampère operator acting on ω -plurisubharmonic Hölder continuous functions. We show that this set is convex, by sharpening Kołodziej’s result that measures with L p -density belong to ( X , ω ) and proving that ( X , ω ) has the...

Hölder estimates and hypoellipticity

André Unterberger, Julianne Unterberger (1976)

Annales de l'institut Fourier

The aim of this paper is to show how, in order to prove regularity theorems, Hölder estimates, i.e. estimates involving products of powers of different semi-norms, can be used as well as standard estimates, and may in some instances be casier to prove.
