Singular nonlinear elliptic equations in .
A current procedure that takes into account the Dirichlet boundary condition with non-smooth data is to change it into a Robin type condition by introducing a penalization term; a major effect of this procedure is an easy implementation of the boundary condition. In this work, we deal with an optimal control problem where the control variable is the Dirichlet data. We describe the Robin penalization, and we bound the gap between the penalized and the non-penalized boundary controls for the small...

We consider a singularly perturbed elliptic equation with superlinear nonlinearity on an annulus in , and look for solutions which are invariant under a fixed point free 1-parameter group action. We show that this problem can be reduced to a nonhomogeneous equation on a related annulus in dimension 3. The ground state solutions of this equation are single peak solutions which concentrate near the inner boundary. Transforming back, these solutions produce a family of solutions which concentrate...
In this paper, we compare a biomechanics empirical model of the heart fibrous structure to two models obtained by a non-periodic homogenization process. To this end, the two homogenized models are simplified using the small amplitude homogenization procedure of Tartar, both in conduction and in elasticity. A new small amplitude homogenization expansion formula for a mixture of anisotropic elastic materials is also derived and allows us to obtain a third simplified model.
We prove that within the frame of smoothed prolongations, rapid coarsening between first two levels can be compensated by massive prolongation smoothing and pre- and post-smoothing derived from the prolongator smoother.
We investigate the following quasilinear and singular problem, where is an open bounded domain with smooth boundary, , , , and . As usual, if , is arbitrarily large if , and if . We employ variational methods in order to show the existence of at least two distinct (positive) solutions of problem (P) in . While following an approach due to Ambrosetti-Brezis-Cerami, we need to prove two new results of separate interest: a strong comparison principle and a regularity result for solutions...
The author solves a mixed boundary value problem for linear partial differential equations of the elliptic type in a multiply connected domain. Dirichlet conditions are given on the components of the boundary of the domain up to some additive constants which are not known a priori. These constants are to be determined, together with the solution of the boundary value problem, to fulfil some additional conditions. The results are immediately applicable in hydrodynamics to the solution of problems...
For open sets with a piecewise smooth boundary it is shown that a solution of the Dirichlet problem for the Laplace equation can be expressed in the form of the sum of the single layer potential and the double layer potential with the same density, where this density is given by a concrete series.
For fairly general open sets it is shown that we can express a solution of the Neumann problem for the Laplace equation in the form of a single layer potential of a signed measure which is given by a concrete series. If the open set is simply connected and bounded then the solution of the Dirichlet problem is the double layer potential with a density given by a similar series.
