Harmonic and Minimal Unit Vector Fields on the Symmetric Spaces G 2 and G 2 / S O ( 4 )

László Verhóczki (2012)

Acta Universitatis Palackianae Olomucensis. Facultas Rerum Naturalium. Mathematica

The exceptional compact symmetric spaces G 2 and G 2 / S O ( 4 ) admit cohomogeneity one isometric actions with two totally geodesic singular orbits. These singular orbits are not reflective submanifolds of the ambient spaces. We prove that the radial unit vector fields associated to these isometric actions are harmonic and minimal.

Harmonic maps and representations of non-uniform lattices of PU ( m , 1 )

Vincent Koziarz, Julien Maubon (2008)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

We study representations of lattices of PU ( m , 1 ) into PU ( n , 1 ) . We show that if a representation is reductive and if m is at least 2, then there exists a finite energy harmonic equivariant map from complex hyperbolic m -space to complex hyperbolic n -space. This allows us to give a differential geometric proof of rigidity results obtained by M. Burger and A. Iozzi. We also define a new invariant associated to representations into PU ( n , 1 ) of non-uniform lattices in PU ( 1 , 1 ) , and more generally of fundamental groups of orientable...

Harmonic maps and Riemannian submersions between manifolds endowed with special structures

Stere Ianuş, Gabriel Eduard Vîlcu, Rodica Cristina Voicu (2011)

Banach Center Publications

It is well known that Riemannian submersions are of interest in physics, owing to their applications in the Yang-Mills theory, Kaluza-Klein theory, supergravity and superstring theories. In this paper we give a survey of harmonic maps and Riemannian submersions between manifolds equipped with certain geometrical structures such as almost Hermitian structures, contact structures, f-structures and quaternionic structures. We also present some new results concerning holomorphic maps and semi-Riemannian...

Harmonic maps from compact Kähler manifolds with positive scalar curvature to Kähler manifolds of strongly seminegative curvature

Qilin Yang (2009)

Colloquium Mathematicae

It is well known there is no non-constant harmonic map from a closed Riemannian manifold of positive Ricci curvature to a complete Riemannian manifold with non-positive sectional curvature. If one reduces the assumption on the Ricci curvature to one on the scalar curvature, such a vanishing theorem does not hold in general. This raises the question: What information can we obtain from the existence of a non-constant harmonic map? This paper gives an answer to this problem when both manifolds are...

Harmonic metrics on four dimensional non-reductive homogeneous manifolds

Amirhesam Zaeim, Parvane Atashpeykar (2018)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We study harmonic metrics with respect to the class of invariant metrics on non-reductive homogeneous four dimensional manifolds. In particular, we consider harmonic lifted metrics with respect to the Sasaki lifts, horizontal lifts and complete lifts of the metrics under study.

Harmonic morphisms between Weyl spaces and twistorial maps II

Eric Loubeau, Radu Pantilie (2010)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

We define, on smooth manifolds, the notions of almost twistorial structure and twistorial map, thus providing a unified framework for all known examples of twistor spaces. The condition of being a harmonic morphism naturally appears among the geometric properties of submersive twistorial maps between low-dimensional Weyl spaces endowed with a nonintegrable almost twistorial structure due to Eells and Salamon. This leads to the twistorial characterisation of harmonic morphisms between Weyl spaces...

Harmonicity of vector fields on four-dimensional generalized symmetric spaces

Giovanni Calvaruso (2012)

Open Mathematics

Let (M = G/H;g)denote a four-dimensional pseudo-Riemannian generalized symmetric space and g = m + h the corresponding decomposition of the Lie algebra g of G. We completely determine the harmonicity properties of vector fields belonging to m. In some cases, all these vector fields are critical points for the energy functional restricted to vector fields. Vector fields defining harmonic maps are also classified, and the energy of these vector fields is explicitly calculated.

H-conformal anti-invariant submersions from almost quaternionic Hermitian manifolds

Kwang Soon Park (2020)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We introduce the notions of h-conformal anti-invariant submersions and h-conformal Lagrangian submersions from almost quaternionic Hermitian manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds as a generalization of Riemannian submersions, horizontally conformal submersions, anti-invariant submersions, h-anti-invariant submersions, h-Lagrangian submersion, conformal anti-invariant submersions. We investigate their properties: the integrability of distributions, the geometry of foliations, the conditions for such...

Hodge type decomposition

Wojciech Kozłowski (2007)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

In the space Λ p of polynomial p-forms in ℝⁿ we introduce some special inner product. Let H p be the space of polynomial p-forms which are both closed and co-closed. We prove in a purely algebraic way that Λ p splits as the direct sum d * ( Λ p + 1 ) δ * ( Λ p - 1 ) H p , where d* (resp. δ*) denotes the adjoint operator to d (resp. δ) with respect to that inner product.

Hörmander systems and harmonic morphisms

Elisabetta Barletta (2003)

Annali della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa - Classe di Scienze

Given a Hörmander system X = { X 1 , , X m } on a domain Ω 𝐑 n we show that any subelliptic harmonic morphism φ from Ω into a ν -dimensional riemannian manifold N is a (smooth) subelliptic harmonic map (in the sense of J. Jost & C-J. Xu, [9]). Also φ is a submersion provided that ν m and X has rank m . If Ω = 𝐇 n (the Heisenberg group) and X = 1 2 L α + L α ¯ , 1 2 i L α - L α ¯ , where L α ¯ = / z ¯ α - i z α / t is the Lewy operator, then a smooth map φ : Ω N is a subelliptic harmonic morphism if and only if φ π : ( C ( 𝐇 n ) , F θ 0 ) N is a harmonic morphism, where S 1 C ( 𝐇 n ) π 𝐇 n is the canonical circle bundle and F θ 0 is the Fefferman...
