On some nonlinear partial differential equations involving the 1-Laplacian

Mouna Kraïem (2007)

Annales de la faculté des sciences de Toulouse Mathématiques

Let Ω be a smooth bounded domain in N , N > 1 and let n * . We prove here the existence of nonnegative solutions u n in B V ( Ω ) , to the problem ( P n ) - div σ + 2 n Ω u - 1 sign + ( u ) = 0 in Ω , σ · u = | u | in Ω , u is not identically zero , - σ · n u = u on Ω , where n denotes the unit outer normal to Ω , and sign + ( u ) denotes some L ( Ω ) function defined as: sign + ( u ) . u = u + , 0 sign + ( u ) 1 . Moreover, we prove the tight convergence of u n towards one of the first eingenfunctions for the first 1 - Laplacian Operator - Δ 1 on Ω when n goes to + .

On the dimension of p -harmonic measure in space

John L. Lewis, Kaj Nyström, Andrew Vogel (2013)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Let Ω n , n 3 , and let p , 1 < p < , p 2 , be given. In this paper we study the dimension of p -harmonic measures that arise from non-negative solutions to the p -Laplace equation, vanishing on a portion of Ω , in the setting of δ -Reifenberg flat domains. We prove, for p n , that there exists δ ˜ = δ ˜ ( p , n ) > 0 small such that if Ω is a δ -Reifenberg flat domain with δ < δ ˜ , then p -harmonic measure is concentrated on a set of σ -finite H n 1 -measure. We prove, for p n , that for sufficiently flat Wolff snowflakes the Hausdorff dimension of p -harmonic measure...

On the existence of five nontrivial solutions for resonant problems with p-Laplacian

Leszek Gasiński, Nikolaos S. Papageorgiou (2010)

Discussiones Mathematicae, Differential Inclusions, Control and Optimization

In this paper we study a nonlinear Dirichlet elliptic differential equation driven by the p-Laplacian and with a nonsmooth potential. The hypotheses on the nonsmooth potential allow resonance with respect to the principal eigenvalue λ₁ > 0 of ( - Δ , W 1 , p ( Z ) ) . We prove the existence of five nontrivial smooth solutions, two positive, two negative and the fifth nodal.

On the solvability of Dirichlet problem for the weighted p-Laplacian

Dominik Mielczarek, Jerzy Rydlewski, Ewa Szlachtowska (2014)

Discussiones Mathematicae, Differential Inclusions, Control and Optimization

In this paper we are concerned with the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution for the weighted p-Laplacian. The purpose of this paper is to discuss in some depth the problem of solvability of Dirichlet problem, therefore all proofs are contained in some detail. The main result of the work is the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution for the Dirichlet problem provided that the weights are bounded. Furthermore, under this assumption the solution belongs to the Sobolev space W 1 , p ( Ω ) .

Picone’s identity for a Finsler p -Laplacian and comparison of nonlinear elliptic equations

Jaroslav Jaroš (2014)

Mathematica Bohemica

In the paper we present an identity of the Picone type for a class of nonlinear differential operators of the second order involving an arbitrary norm H in n which is continuously differentiable for x 0 and such that H p is strictly convex for some p > 1 . Two important special cases are the p -Laplacian and the so-called pseudo p -Laplacian. The identity is then used to establish a variety of comparison results concerning nonlinear degenerate elliptic equations which involve such operators. We also get criteria...

Positive solutions of the p -Laplace Emden-Fowler equation in hollow thin symmetric domains

Ryuji Kajikiya (2014)

Mathematica Bohemica

We study the existence of positive solutions for the p -Laplace Emden-Fowler equation. Let H and G be closed subgroups of the orthogonal group O ( N ) such that H G O ( N ) . We denote the orbit of G through x N by G ( x ) , i.e., G ( x ) : = { g x : g G } . We prove that if H ( x ) G ( x ) for all x Ω ¯ and the first eigenvalue of the p -Laplacian is large enough, then no H invariant least energy solution is G invariant. Here an H invariant least energy solution means a solution which achieves the minimum of the Rayleigh quotient among all H invariant functions. Therefore...

Regularity of renormalized solutions to nonlinear elliptic equations away from the support of measure data

Andrea Dall'Aglio, Sergio Segura de León (2019)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We prove boundedness and continuity for solutions to the Dirichlet problem for the equation - div ( a ( x , u ) ) = h ( x , u ) + μ , in Ω N , where the left-hand side is a Leray-Lions operator from W 0 1 , p ( Ω ) into W - 1 , p ' ( Ω ) with 1 < p < N , h ( x , s ) is a Carathéodory function which grows like | s | p - 1 and μ is a finite Radon measure. We prove that renormalized solutions, though not globally bounded, are Hölder-continuous far from the support of μ .

Regularity of stable solutions of p -Laplace equations through geometric Sobolev type inequalities

Daniele Castorina, Manel Sanchón (2015)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

We prove a Sobolev and a Morrey type inequality involving the mean curvature and the tangential gradient with respect to the level sets of the function that appears in the inequalities. Then, as an application, we establish a priori estimates for semistable solutions of Δ p u = g ( u ) in a smooth bounded domain Ω n . In particular, we obtain new L r and W 1 , r bounds for the extremal solution u when the domain is strictly convex. More precisely, we prove that u L ( Ω ) if n p + 2 and u L n p n - p - 2 ( Ω ) W 0 1 , p ( Ω ) if n > p + 2 .

Separable solutions of quasilinear Lane–Emden equations

Alessio Porretta, Laurent Véron (2013)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

For 0 < p - 1 < q and either ϵ = 1 or ϵ = - 1 , we prove the existence of solutions of - Δ p u = ϵ u q in a cone C S , with vertex 0 and opening S , vanishing on C S , of the form u ( x ) = x - β ω ( x / x ) . The problem reduces to a quasilinear elliptic equation on S and the existence proof is based upon degree theory and homotopy methods. We also obtain a nonexistence result in some critical case by making use of an integral type identity.

Sobolev versus Hölder local minimizers and existence of multiple solutions for a singular quasilinear equation

Jacques Giacomoni, Ian Schindler, Peter Takáč (2007)

Annali della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa - Classe di Scienze

We investigate the following quasilinear and singular problem, t o 2 . 7 c m - Δ p u = λ u δ + u q in Ω ; u | Ω = 0 , u > 0 in Ω , t o 2 . 7 c m (P) where Ω is an open bounded domain with smooth boundary, 1 < p < , p - 1 < q p * - 1 , λ > 0 , and 0 < δ < 1 . As usual, p * = N p N - p if 1 < p < N , p * ( p , ) is arbitrarily large if p = N , and p * = if p > N . We employ variational methods in order to show the existence of at least two distinct (positive) solutions of problem (P) in W 0 1 , p ( Ω ) . While following an approach due to Ambrosetti-Brezis-Cerami, we need to prove two new results of separate interest: a strong comparison principle and a regularity result for solutions...
