Dissipative Euler flows and Onsager's conjecture

Camillo De Lellis, László Székelyhidi (2014)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Building upon the techniques introduced in [15], for any θ < 1 10 we construct periodic weak solutions of the incompressible Euler equations which dissipate the total kinetic energy and are Hölder-continuous with exponent θ . A famous conjecture of Onsager states the existence of such dissipative solutions with any Hölder exponent θ < 1 3 . Our theorem is the first result in this direction.

Distribution laws for integrable eigenfunctions

Bernard Shiffman, Tatsuya Tate, Steve Zelditch (2004)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

We determine the asymptotics of the joint eigenfunctions of the torus action on a toric Kähler variety. Such varieties are models of completely integrable systems in complex geometry. We first determine the pointwise asymptotics of the eigenfunctions, which show that they behave like Gaussians centered at the corresponding classical torus. We then show that there is a universal Gaussian scaling limit of the distribution function near its center. We also determine the limit...

Distributional derivatives of functions of two variables of finite variation and their application to an impulsive hyperbolic equation

Dariusz Idczak (1998)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We give characterizations of the distributional derivatives D 1 , 1 , D 1 , 0 , D 0 , 1 of functions of two variables of locally finite variation. Then we use these results to prove the existence theorem for the hyperbolic equation with a nonhomogeneous term containing the distributional derivative determined by an additive function of an interval of finite variation. An application of the above theorem to a hyperbolic equation with an impulse effect is also given.

Distributions of truncations of the heat kernel on the complex projective space

Nizar Demni (2014)

Annales mathématiques Blaise Pascal

Let ( U t ) t 0 be a Brownian motion valued in the complex projective space P N - 1 . Using unitary spherical harmonics of homogeneous degree zero, we derive the densities of | U t 1 | 2 and of ( | U t 1 | 2 , | U t 2 | 2 ) , and express them through Jacobi polynomials in the simplices of and 2 respectively. More generally, the distribution of ( | U t 1 | 2 , , | U t k | 2 ) , 2 k N - 1 may be derived using the decomposition of the unitary spherical harmonics under the action of the unitary group 𝒰 ( N - k + 1 ) yet computations become tedious. We also revisit the approach initiated in [13] and based on...

Div-curl lemma revisited: Applications in electromagnetism

Marián Slodička, Ján Jr. Buša (2010)

Kybernetika

Two new time-dependent versions of div-curl results in a bounded domain Ω 3 are presented. We study a limit of the product v k w k , where the sequences v k and w k belong to Ł 2 ( Ω ) . In Theorem 2.1 we assume that × v k is bounded in the L p -norm and · w k is controlled in the L r -norm. In Theorem 2.2 we suppose that × w k is bounded in the L p -norm and · w k is controlled in the L r -norm. The time derivative of w k is bounded in both cases in the norm of - 1 ( Ω ) . The convergence (in the sense of distributions) of v k w k to the product v w of weak limits...
