Convergence of discretization procedures for problems whose entropy solutions are uniquely characterized by additional relations

Rainer Ansorge (2003)

Applications of Mathematics

Weak solutions of given problems are sometimes not necessarily unique. Relevant solutions are then picked out of the set of weak solutions by so-called entropy conditions. Connections between the original and the numerical entropy condition were often discussed in the particular case of scalar conservation laws, and also a general theory was presented in the literature for general scalar problems. The entropy conditions were realized by certain inequalities not generalizable to systems of equations...

Convergent finite element discretizations of the Navier-Stokes-Nernst-Planck-Poisson system

Andreas Prohl, Markus Schmuck (2010)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

We propose and analyse two convergent fully discrete schemes to solve the incompressible Navier-Stokes-Nernst-Planck-Poisson system. The first scheme converges to weak solutions satisfying an energy and an entropy dissipation law. The second scheme uses Chorin's projection method to obtain an efficient approximation that converges to strong solutions at optimal rates.

Couches limites semilinéaires

Franck Sueur (2006)

Dirichlet problem for a nonlinear conservation law.

Guy Vallet (2000)

Revista Matemática Complutense

In this paper we propose the study of a first-order non-linear hyperbolic equation in a bounded domain. We give a result of existence and uniqueness of the entropic measure-valued solution and of the entropic weak solution; for some general assumptions on the data.

Discontinuous travelling wave solutions for a class of dissipative hyperbolic models

Carmela Currò, Domenico Fusco (2005)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

Discontinuous shock structure solutions for a general system of balance laws is considered in order to investigate the problem of connecting two equilibrium states lying on different sides of a singular barrier representing a locus of irregular singular points for travelling waves. Within such a theoretical setting a governing system of monoatomic gas is considered.

Exact boundary observability for quasilinear hyperbolic systems

Tatsien Li (2008)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

By means of a direct and constructive method based on the theory of semi-global C1 solution, the local exact boundary observability is established for one-dimensional first order quasilinear hyperbolic systems with general nonlinear boundary conditions. An implicit duality between the exact boundary controllability and the exact boundary observability is then shown in the quasilinear case.
