Local exact controllability for the 1 -d compressible Navier-Stokes equations

Sylvain Ervedoza (2011/2012)

Séminaire Laurent Schwartz — EDP et applications

In this talk, I will present a recent result obtained in [6] with O. Glass, S. Guerrero and J.-P. Puel on the local exact controllability of the 1 -d compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The goal of these notes is to give an informal presentation of this article and we refer the reader to it for extensive details.

Local exact controllability to the trajectories of the Navier-Stokes system with nonlinear Navier-slip boundary conditions

Sergio Guerrero (2006)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

In this paper we deal with the local exact controllability of the Navier-Stokes system with nonlinear Navier-slip boundary conditions and distributed controls supported in small sets. In a first step, we prove a Carleman inequality for the linearized Navier-Stokes system, which leads to null controllability of this system at any time T>0. Then, fixed point arguments lead to the deduction of a local result concerning the exact controllability to the trajectories of the Navier-Stokes system.

Local existence of solutions of a free boundary problem for equations of compressible viscous heat-conducting fluids

Ewa Zadrzyńska, Wojciech Zajączkowski (1998)

Applicationes Mathematicae

The local existence and the uniqueness of solutions for equations describing the motion of viscous compressible heat-conducting fluids in a domain bounded by a free surface is proved. First, we prove the existence of solutions of some auxiliary problems by the Galerkin method and by regularization techniques. Next, we use the method of successive approximations to prove the local existence for the main problem.

Local existence of solutions of the free boundary problem for the equations of compressible barotropic viscous self-gravitating fluids

G. Ströhmer, W. Zajączkowski (1999)

Applicationes Mathematicae

Local existence of solutions is proved for equations describing the motion of a viscous compressible barotropic and self-gravitating fluid in a domain bounded by a free surface. First by the Galerkin method and regularization techniques the existence of solutions of the linearized momentum equations is proved, next by the method of successive approximations local existence to the nonlinear problem is shown.

Local existence of solutions of the free boundary problem for the equations of a magnetohydrodynamic incompressible fluid

Piotr Kacprzyk (2003)

Applicationes Mathematicae

Local existence of solutions is proved for equations describing the motion of a magnetohydrodynamic incompressible fluid in a domain bounded by a free surface. In the exterior domain we have an electromagnetic field which is generated by some currents located on a fixed boundary. First by the Galerkin method and regularization techniques the existence of solutions of the linarized equations is proved; next by the method of successive aproximations the local existence is shown for the nonlinear problem....

Local existence of solutions of the mixed problem for the system of equations of ideal relativistic hydrodynamics

Joanna Rencławowicz, Wojciech Zajączkowski (1998)

Applicationes Mathematicae

Existence and uniqueness of local solutions for the initial-boundary value problem for the equations of an ideal relativistic fluid are proved. Both barotropic and nonbarotropic motions are considered. Existence for the linearized problem is shown by transforming the equations to a symmetric system and showing the existence of weak solutions; next, the appropriate regularity is obtained by applying Friedrich's mollifiers technique. Finally, existence for the nonlinear problem is proved by the method...

Local minimizers with vortex filaments for a Gross-Pitaevsky functional

Robert L. Jerrard (2007)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

This paper gives a rigorous derivation of a functional proposed by Aftalion and Rivière [Phys. Rev. A64 (2001) 043611] to characterize the energy of vortex filaments in a rotationally forced Bose-Einstein condensate. This functional is derived as a Γ-limit of scaled versions of the Gross-Pitaevsky functional for the wave function of such a condensate. In most situations, the vortex filament energy functional is either unbounded below or has only trivial minimizers, but we establish the existence...

Local null controllability of a fluid-solid interaction problem in dimension 3

Muriel Boulakia, Sergio Guerrero (2013)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

We are interested by the three-dimensional coupling between an incompressible fluid and a rigid body. The fluid is modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations, while the solid satisfies the Newton's laws. In the main result of the paper we prove that, with the help of a distributed control, we can drive the fluid and structure velocities to zero and the solid to a reference position provided that the initial velocities are small enough and the initial position of the structure is close to the reference...

Local null controllability of a two-dimensional fluid-structure interaction problem

Muriel Boulakia, Axel Osses (2008)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

In this paper, we prove a controllability result for a fluid-structure interaction problem. In dimension two, a rigid structure moves into an incompressible fluid governed by Navier-Stokes equations. The control acts on a fixed subset of the fluid domain. We prove that, for small initial data, this system is null controllable, that is, for a given T > 0 , the system can be driven at rest and the structure to its reference configuration at time T . To show this result, we first consider a linearized system....

Local Smoothness of Weak Solutions to the Magnetohydrodynamics Equations via Blowup Methods

Basil Nicolaenko, Alex Mahalov, Timofey Shilkin (2006/2007)

Séminaire Équations aux dérivées partielles

We demonstrate that there exist no self-similar solutions of the incompressible magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations in the space L 3 ( R 3 ) . This is a consequence of proving the local smoothness of weak solutions via blowup methods for weak solutions which are locally L 3 . We present the extension of the Escauriaza-Seregin-Sverak method to MHD systems.
